Potomac Nationals News Release
The Potomac Nationals will look to take the first two games of this four-game series with the rival Lynchburg Hillcats when they play an afternoon tilt on Day Care Day from Pfitzner Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
PLAYER MOVEMENT: Three roster moves were made prior to today's action. Washington 1B Dmitri Young will become the fourth member of the parent club to make a MLB Rehab appearance joining pitchers Joe Biemel, Scott Olsen and Kip Wells who have all worn P-Nats jerseys this season. Young, the 2007 NL Comeback Player of the Year played 50 games with Washington last year hitting .280 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. He is recovering from back and hip injuries and played three games with the GCL Nationals hittng .167. Also joining the party today is RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez who made two appearances in the postseason for Potomac a year ago. With Low-A Hagerstown this season, O-Rod was 2-3 with 10 saves and a 3.06 ERA. The Dominican righty will take the place of Dan Lyons who will be making his third trip to the D.L.
TODAY'S OPPOSING STARTER: LHP Justin Wilson, 21, was drafted in the 5th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Fresno State. The young lefthander was one of the heroes in Bulldogs' improbable College World Series championship last season after allowing one run and striking out nine in 8.0 innings to beat Georgia in the clincher. As a junior last season, Wilson went 7-4 with a 4.17 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 19 appearances (15 starts).
The story of Wilson's first professional season has been his inconsistency. After winning two of his first three outings, the California native has two stretches this year where he has gone winless in at least six starts. He is currently riding a personal three-game losing streak with his last win coming in his last start against Potomac back on May 29. Despite walking eight batters and posting an ERA of 5.27 (8ER/13.2IP) in three games against the Nationals, Wilson is 2-0 against the P-Nats. Against the rest of the Carolina League, the lefty is just 1-6 with a 6.84 ERA (38ER/50.0IP)
