Potomac Comes From Behind in Win Over Lynchburg

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals snapped a two-game skid Saturday night in come-from-behind fashion. Potomac defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats 4-3 to even the series 1-1.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Michael Burgess led off with a single through the hole at second. Tim Pahuta singled to left, putting runners on the corners for Brian Peacock. During his at-bat, Jeremy Horst tossed a wild pitch to allow Burgess to score and pinch-runner Robby Jacobsen to take second. Jacobsen then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fransisco Plasencia.

Martin Beno picked up his first win of the season by holding the Hillcats to one hit and one run in three innings in relief of Potomac starter Marcos Frias. Beno recorded four strikeouts on the night.

Pahuta continued his hot streak Saturday. He was 2-for-4 at the plate and is 5-for-12 in his last three games.

Steve Lombardozzi had a breakout game. The leadoff hitter was 2-for-2 with a walk after failing to record a hit in his last two games.

Potomac pitcher Cole Kimball earned his first save of the season, retiring the side in succession in the top of the ninth inning.

Jeremy Horst (0-2) took the loss for Lynchburg after Jordan Hotchkiss blew the save.

The rubber match is set for Sunday afternoonat 1:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge.
