Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg relinquished three separate leads in dropping the middle-game of a three-game set with Potomac. Devin Mesoraco's eighth inning homer gave the Hillcats the lead, but wasn't enough in the 4-3 loss at Pfitzner Stadium.

Josh Fellhauer started the scoring early for the Hillcats in the top of the first with his second lead-off homer to start a game this season. Fellhauer is tied for the team lead with three home runs and eight RBI. The Nationals answered that run with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Dan Nelson to tie the game at one.

In the third inning Lynchburg regained the lead with an RBI single by Carlos Mendez. Potomac would come back again though with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to knot up the game at two a piece.

It stayed tied at two until the top of the eighth when Lynchburg took the lead again. Devin Mesoraco smacked his third homer of the season to make it a 3-2 game. Mesoraco is tied with Fellhauer for the team lead with three home runs and eight RBI.

The P-Nats would rally again though with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good. A wild pitch brought in the tying run and a sacrifice fly by Francisco Plasencia put the Nationals in front by a run at 4-3.

The win went to Martin Beno (1-0) for the Nationals (6-10) and Jeremy Horst, who allowed the two runs in the eighth, took the loss for Lynchburg (6-10). The rubber match is now set for Sunday afternoon at Pfitzner Stadium at 1:05 p.m. in Woodbridge, VA. Left-hander Matt Fairel (2-0, 2.35) will get the call for the Cats opposite righty Brad Peacock (0-2, 4.70) for the Nats. You can tune-in for all the live action beginning at 1:40 with the Hillcats On-Deck Show on 105.5 KD Country and on the web at lynchburg-hillcats.com.
