
Pote Pitches Shutout in Game 1

Mustering only three hits the Calgary Vipers were defeated 3-0 by the Edmonton Capitals in the first game of a double-header featuring two seven inning games at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Edmonton's starting pitcher Lou Pote (1-0) was fantastic in throwing the seven inning shutout while allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four and inducing three double-plays behind him. Calgary's starter Garret Holleran (0-2) was also solid in throwing a complete seven inning game and allowing only one earned run on three hits.
Edmonton opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning as Alex Chavez singled, Lou Pote reached on an error after his sacrifice bunt, Matt Rogelstad advanced the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Todd Linden hit a sacrifice fly, and Tom Collaro singled in a run for a 2-0 lead.
The Capitals added to the lead in the seventh frame when Chavez went deep with two outs for a solo home run and a 3-0 advantage.
Calgary hits the road for a six game series in Edmonton against the Capitals starting on Tuesday May 31st at 7:05 PM MDT.
The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Monday June 6th at 6:30 PM MDT as they host the Edmonton Capitals.
