
Wingo Leads Roadrunners Past Colts

EDINBURG, Texas---Scott Wingo allowed one run and struck out seven for his first professional win to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the San Angelo Colts 7-1 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Roadrunners (2-3) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first against Steve MacFarland (0-1). Cody McMorris led off the inning with a bunt single and then moved to third on a one-out single by R.J. Harris. Stantrel Smith followed with an RBI single that allowed McMorris to score giving Edinburg the 1-0 lead.
Smith reached with a single in the bottom of the third and then stole second and third base. After a walk to Osiel Flores, Robert Matlock hit an RBI single that allowed Smith to score from third. One out later, Gabe Memmert hit an RBI single that drove in Flores but a fielding error in the outfield allowed Matlock to score as well pushing the Roadrunners lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, McMorris reached on a single and then stole second base. Harris then followed with an RBI single to center field that allowed McMorris to score. Smith then hit a single to right field and that allowed Harris to move to third. Adam Gordon then hit into an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Harris to score making it 6-0.
The Colts (1-4) got their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth with a solo home run by Mark Ramos cutting Edinburg's lead to 6-1.
The Roadrunners got the run back in the bottom of the sixth when Smith hit an RBI single driving in Brandon Wilkerson, who led off with a double, from second base extending the Roadrunners lead to 7-1
Mike Schurz pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to give Edinburg the 7-1 victory.
The Roadrunners and Colts will play game two of their four-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Ryan Harris (0-1) is expected to face Brian Henschel (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
