Postgame Recap: Trouble Two-By-Two
March 24, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Sioux City Musketeers scored two goals in each period on Friday and outdistanced the Waterloo Black Hawks, 6-3, at Tyson Events Center.
Kristian Pospisil and Odeen Tufto created challenges for the Black Hawks throughout the night, combining to score the first four Sioux City goals of the game. Pospisil capitalized at 12:46 to open the offense seconds after a Sioux City power play had ended. Tuffto followed up in transition less than four minutes later.
During the opening minute of the second, a power play goal from just outside the crease credited to Bailey Conger drew Waterloo back within one. However, Tufto scored after Pospisil forced a turnover just 90 seconds later. Pospisil then put in his second of the night at 6:12.
Ethan Johnson sparked a Waterloo rally with 8:41 remaining before intermission. During a delayed penalty situation, Johnson redirected Hank Sorensen's shot into the net. Emil Orhvall then closed the gap to one goal 9:37 into the third. Ohrvall's shot out of the right corner handcuffed goalie Matiss Kivlenieks and snuck inside the post to his left.
However, Tarek Baker put the game all but out of reach, twisting to the net to score in transition at 14:19. Micah Miller added an empty-netter with 18.7 seconds to go.
The Hawks return home Saturday for a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 p.m. University of Northern Iowa students and staff can enjoy discounted tickets on Panther Pride Night. To order, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
