Stockton, CA. - Early offense doomed the Modesto Nuts in the 13-2 loss to the Stockton Ports to open the 2016 slate at Banner Island Ballpark on Thursday night.

Forrest Wall provided the lone offensive spark for the Nuts with a two-run blast in the fifth as part of a 2-for-4 debut with the Nuts. Dom Nunez walked three times and Wes Rogers recorded two singles in five at-bats at the top of the order.
Ports got going early with a two-run blast by Tyler Marincov. In the second inning, the Ports picked up a two-out RBI single by Argenis Raga to spark a six-run, two-out rally. James Harris cracked a two-run dinger and Marincov chased Tinoco with a RBI single.
Daniel Gossett (W, 1-0) worked five innings in his Ports debut. The righty struck out six and walked three while allowing just the two-run blast to Wall.
