Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Johneshwy Fargas came up with a clutch two-out two-run triple in the seventh inning to lift the San Jose Giants over the JetHawks, 4-3 on Opening Night at Municipal Stadium. The JetHawks rallied for a run in the ninth, but stranded the tying run on second base.
After the Giants opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third, the JetHawks responded immediately in the fourth when Garrett Stubbs grounded into a fielder's choice. Stubbs threw out two runners trying to steal second and also stole a base himself in his High-A debut.
The Giants had an answer with a run to re-take the lead in the bottom of the fourth, before the JetHawks tied it again on Jason Martin's two-out RBI double to score Drew Ferguson from second base.
It remained 2-2 until the seventh. Kevin Comer came on with one out and nobody on and retired the first batter he faced. He then walked the next two, before Fargas delivered his decisive triple to make it 4-2 San Jose.
Akeem Bostick started for Lancaster and gave up six hits, but only one run in three innings of work. Dean Deetz followed and struck out three in three and one-third innings, allowing just one run himself.
