Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm spoiled Rancho Cucamonga's Opening Day Celebration, scoring four first-inning runs and holding on for a 4-2 win over the Quakes at LoanMart Field on Thursday night.
Fans in attendance watched as the Championship Flag, commemorating the 2015 Cal League Title was raised at LoanMart Field prior to Thursday's game.
Quakes' starter Trevor Oaks struggled early, as the Storm did all their damage in the first frame. Lake Elsinore collected four hits and got some help from some shaky Rancho defense in order to plate all four of their runs.
Oaks (0-1) would settle down and pitch five innings, but suffered the loss after allowing four runs on five hits over his five frames.
Trailing 4-0 in the first, Rancho responded by tallying single runs in the first and second, respectively to cut the deficit in half. Tim Locastro singled home Andrew Toles in the first, making it a 4-1 game. Matt Beaty led off the second with a single and eventually scored on a sac fly off the bat of Jordan Tarsovich, making it 4-2 against Storm starter Dinelson Lamet.
That's as close as the Quakes would get however, as the Storm got five innings of scoreless relief from their bullpen. Chris Huffman (1-0) earned the win in relief, by tossing a pair of scoreless innings, while Colby Blueberg notched the save with a pair of scoreless innings himself.
Rehabbing Dodgers' infielder Howie Kendrick made his first of what is expected to be multiple rehab appearances with the Quakes, but finished the game 0-for-3 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter. Kendrick is expected to play in the field on Friday, as the Quakes host the Storm in game two of the four-game set.
Friday's game will feature Quakes' right-hander Brock Stewart (0-0), as he'll face Storm lefty Thomas Dorminy (0-0) at 7:05pm.
Friday night is our first Family RV $1 Family Feast, as hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
