
Ports Overwhelmed by Storm in Series Opener

STOCKTON, Ca. - The Lake Elsinore Storm pounded out 16 hits and four home runs as the Ports dropped their third straight with an 18-2 loss in the series opener on Tuesday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
The Storm (64-45) jumped on top in the second inning, loading the bases on three walks for Charlis Aquino who lined a one-out single to left center to score Justin Farmer from third base top make it 1-0.
With one swing of the bat the Storm extended their lead in the third inning. With runners on first and second, Samuel Zavala drove a three-run homer into the Jackson Rancheria Back Porch to extend the Lake Elsinore lead to 4-0.
The Ports' (38-71) offense came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning against Storm starter Duncan Snider. Danny Bautista led off with a bunt single and Tommy Stevenson walked with one out to put runners on first and second. Daniel Susac then followed with a double to left center field to get the Ports on the board, cutting the Lake Elsinore lead to 4-1. With runners on second and third, Junior Perez lined a single to right field to score Stevenson, making it 4-2.
With two outs and nobody on in the top of the fifth, the Storm got a run back. Zavala tripled and scored when Colton Bender singled to left field to increase the Lake Elsinore advantage to 5-2.
The Storm got another in the sixth on a solo homer by Nerwilian Cedeño, and two more in the seventh on a solo homer by Griffin Doersching and an RBI single by Cedeño to make it 8-2. Lake Elsinore then began to pour it on in the eighth with a four-run frame and struck for six more in the ninth to extend its advantage to 18-2.
Snider (5-0) earned the win allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in five innings. Ports right-hander Nolan Long, on a rehab assignment, took the loss surrendering a run in a third of an inning while walking two.
The Ports will look to even the series in game two with Lake Elsinore on Wednesday at Banner Island Ballpark with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available at stocktonports.com or by calling (209) 644-1900.
