
Ports Can\'t Catch Up with Modesto

The Ports late rally came up just a little bit short Friday night against division leading Modesto. Stockton scored twice in the seventh, and one in the eighth but couldn't push the tying run across.
Trailing 6-2 entering the seventh, Joaquin Arias doubled to lead off was still there with two outs when Vincent Sinisi doubled him home. Nate Gold lined a soft single into right, bring Sinisi home, and pulling the Ports within two. Arias reached on a bunt basehit with two outs in the eighth igniting another Stockton rally. Cameron Coughlan singled Arias home to make it a one run game. Craig Ringe followed with a single, and Sinisi walked, but Nate Gold struck out to end the threat.
The Ports fell behind early when Modesto roughed up starter Kiki Bengochea. Omar Quintanilla and John Suomi hit back to back home runs in the top of the first, and Stockton was down two before they even came to bat. Stockton tied it at two in the bottom of the second on a bases loaded two run single by Arias. In the third, Bengochea was again hurt by the long ball. Brant Colamarino hit a two run shot with two outs in the inning and the lil A's had a three run lead. The A's extended the lead in the sixth off of Gary Hogan who walked the first batter he faced, Colamarino. Colamarino advanced to second on a groundout and came home on a Nelson Cruz single.
