VISALIA â Bakersfield scored three runs over the final two innings to overcome a game-long deficit and beat the Oaks, 4-2.
Shawn Riggans hit a two-run homer off Jentry Beckstead in the top of the eighth to put the Blaze on top, 4-2. Vince Harrison added an RBI single off closer Mike Cosgrove to make the lead 4-2 in the ninth.
Visalia's Ubaldo Jimenez backed up his 4-0 record and 1.50 Era coming in with six innings on the hill, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
The Oaks took the lead in the second inning thanks to a two-out triple by Jason Frome. Frome scored when Hector Tena lined a single off Blaze pitcher Nick DeBarr's leg.
Bakersfield evened the score on an RBI double by Gabriel Martinez in the top of the third.
Visalia reclaimed the lead thanks to a pair of Bakersfield errors on the same play. K. J. Hendricks stole second with one out in the fifth. The catcher, Riggans throw was well over the middle infielders and sailed into centerfield, where it was misplayed by center fielder Matt Rico, which allowed Hendricks to score and put the Oaks in front, 2-1.
Blaze starter Nick DeBarr went five innings, allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) but got a no decision.
A Rough Night: Mount Whitney High School graduate Matt Rico played professionally in his hometown for the first time. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and an error in centerfield.
Righting the Ship: The Oaks will try to beat the Blaze for the first time this year with a win on Saturday.
