Portland's Knott unties knot with eighth-inning blast

John Knott's solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Portland Beavers a 3-2 win over the visiting Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Sunday afternoon at PGE Park in Portland, Ore.

Both starters, Clay Hensley of the Beavers and Tim Drew of the Sky Sox, pitched seven innings and gave up two runs, but the game was tied at 2-2 when they were pulled.

Knott finished the day 2-for-4, adding a double to go with his game-winning homer. Adam Hyzdu also went deep for the Beavers. Kerry Robinson, the only starter without a hit, saw his 14-game hitting streak come to an end.

R.D. Spiehs (1-0), making only his second appearance in Triple-A, picked up the win with a scoreless inning in relief. Brad Baker pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

Jeff Baker went 3-for-4 for the Sky Sox and Ryan Shealy went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored.

The Beavers improved to 14-15, but remain in last place in the Pacific North Division, while the Sky Sox fell to 14-14.
