Nashville Sounds News Release

OMAHA – Corey Hart gave the Sounds their eighth last at-bat victory of the season with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning on Monday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium, propelling Nashville to a 3-1 win over the Omaha Royals in the matinee finale of a four-game series.

With the victory, Nashville (18-14) gained a split of the four-game series as well as the eight-game road trip. The Sounds sit a half-game out of first place in the PCL American Conference Northern Division, pending later league action.

Hart's home run, an opposite-field shot to right which came against former Sounds hurler Shawn Camp and broke a 1-1 tie, was his second of the season and second in as many days against the Royals.

Trent Durrington (2-for-4) followed Hart's blast with a single and, later in the inning, scored from second on an infield groundout for the second time this season as he hustled home on Julio Mosquera's RBI grounder to second base.

Nashville broke a scoreless tie by scratching across a run against Omaha starter Ryan Jensen in the top of the fourth inning. Brad Nelson led off the frame with a single to right and scored the contest's first run two batters later on Durrington's RBI double.

The Royals tied the contest in the bottom of the sixth when Aaron Guiel tripled off Sounds starter Ben Hendrickson then scored one batter later on Justin Gemoll's RBI single up the middle.

Hendrickson posted his best start of the 2005 season. He went six innings and allowed one run on only four hits with no walks and a season-high eight strikeouts in taking a no-decision after leaving with the score tied.

Prince Fielder went 0-for-4 to snap the Sounds' longest active hitting streak at nine games. Rickie Weeks (1-for-2) and Hart (1-for-4) each extended their respective hitting streak to four contests.

Justin Lehr (3-1) struck out two over a pair of scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory, while Camp (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing the two ninth-inning runs. Chad Paronto came on to throw a scoreless ninth and earn his second save for Nashville. Both saves have come in the last two days against the Royals.

The Sounds return to Nashville this evening and begin an eight-game homestand on Tuesday with the 7 p.m. opener of a four-game series with the Tucson Sidewinders (AAA-Diamondbacks). It will be a battle of southpaws as Jeff Housman (1-1, 4.66) takes the hill for Nashville to face Tucson's Chris Michalak (1-2, 6.26).
