Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
The Winterhawks enter the week with five straight victories and lead the WHL with 105 points, 13 points ahead of the Kelowna Rockets and 14 ahead of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the race for home ice advantage through the playoffs and the Scotty Munro Trophy, awarded to the team with the league's best regular season record. The Hawks already have fifth-highest point total in team history with nine games still to play, and with a winning percentage of .833, are looking to become the first team to play .800 hockey over a full season since Calgary (.847, 122 points) and Vancouver (.826, 119 points) both did it in 2008-09.
The Oil Kings are in Portland Wednesday for a matchup between the two conference leaders, as well as a rematch of last year's WHL championship series. It's the only regular season meeting between the two teams, and tickets are still available at winterhawks.com and the Rose Quarter box office.
Before hosting Edmonton Wednesday, the Hawks are in Kennewick tomorrow to take on the Tri-City Americans. Portland set a new team record over the weekend with their 25th and 26th road wins of the season, passing the previous mark of 24. With five road games still remaining, the Hawks have a chance to set a new WHL record for road victories in a season. The current mark is 28, held by the 1999-00 Calgary Hitmen and 2008-09 Saskatoon Blades.
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
Fans can still purchase tickets for the "Jerseys Off the Backs" promotions following the regular season finale on Sunday, March 17 when they host the Spokane Chiefs at the Rose Garden. Sponsored by Oregon College Savings Plan, fans can purchase raffle tickets at winterhawks.com/jerseyraffle or at Winterhawks games for $10 apiece for a chance to win a spot on the ice after the game, where the winners will pick a player's name out of a hat and win their game-worn jersey.
