Portland Defeats Everett in Overtime, 3-2

Everett, WA - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Silvertips in overtime Friday night 3-2 at Comcast Arena. Everett down two goals in the second period came back to tie the game before the end of regulation. Riley Boychuk scored the game winning goal for Portland with 49 seconds left in overtime. Clayton Cumiskey and Jari Erricson scored for the Silvertips. Kent Simpson made 31 saves for Everett in a strong performance.

Portland's first goal of the game came at 13:18 of the first period. Taylor Peters scored his fourth goal of the season on a great tic-tac-toe passing play on assists from Riley Boychuk and Brendan Leipsic for a 1-0 Winterhawks lead. Everett led in shots 11-8 after the first period.

The Winterhawks scored their second goal of the night at 10:16 of the second period. William Wrenn scored his first goal of the season after a great pass across the slot from Ty Rattie had the Portland Defenseman open on the backside to make the score 2-0. Everett responded at 11:58 with Erricson's fifth goal of the season. A Parker Stanfield wrap around rebounded in the slot where Ericcson beat Portland goalie Mac Carruth blocker side to make the score 2-1. Cumiskey tied the game at 18:17 with a shorthanded goal for the Silvertips. Cumiskey rushed off on a breakaway after blocking a pass from a Winterhawks defenseman. Cumiskey beat Carruth five-hole on the breakaway to bring the score to 2-2.

After a scoreless third period the game went into overtime. First star of the night Riley Boychuk scored with 49 seconds left in overtime to give the Winterhawks a 3-2 overtime victory.

This brings the 'Tips record to 18-21-3-4 with 43 points in 46 games played. Everett heads on the road for two games starting tomorrow night taking on the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 pm.
