Riley Boychuk scored the overtime winner for the Portland Winterhawks (30-14-0-3) Friday night in a 3-2 road win in Everett against the Silvertips (18-21-3-4).
Boychuk's goal came with just 49 seconds left in the extra frame, giving the Winterhawks their third straight win.
The Winterhawks got the lone goal of the first period when Taylor Peters scored his fourth of the season at the 13:18 mark to give Portland a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
Portland made it 2-0 midway through the second period when defenseman William Wrenn scored his first career WHL goal at the 10:16 mark to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Silvertips came back with a goal from Jari Erricson 1:42 later to cut it to 2-1, then tied the game late in the period when Clayton Cumisky scored a shorthanded goal with 1:43 remaining in the period to even the game at 2-2 heading into the third.
The Winterhawks controlled play for much of the third period, outshooting Everett 15-8 in the period, but neither team was able to score, sending the game to overtime where Boychuk would give the Winterhawks the win.
