Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced D Sasha Pokulok has been released from his Professional Try-Out Contract by the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League, and will return to the ice this weekend for the Condors. They have also signed D Filip Bjork (byork) to an Amateur Try-Out Contract.

Pokulok, 23, signed a PTO with the Falcons on Jan. 22 and participated in seven of Springfield's 13 games since signing. He recorded five assists during his AHL stint, including a three-assist effort on Feb. 6 at Albany, but had been a healthy scratch in four games since. The Vaud-Dorion, Quebec, native is currently second among all Condors blueliners with 25 points (10g-15a) this season, while among all ECHL defensemen he ranks tied for sixth with 10 goals and 17th in overall points. At the time of his departure for the AHL, Pokulok ranked in the top five in goals and points in ECHL defensemen scoring.

Bjork, 23, will make his North American professional debut this weekend for the Condors. The 6-0, 195-pound, defenseman recently parted ways with his collegiate club, New England College, which competes in Division-III ECAC. The native of Stockholm, Sweden, played 72 games with NEC, recording 3g-17a-20pts. Bjork, played five seasons of junior hockey in his native land, and also appeared in two games with Uppsala in the Allsvenskan division, a professional league, which disqualified him from a potential Division-I scholarship. The defenseman was a two-time selection to the ECAC All-Academic team and made the Dean's List in 2008.

What Marty Raymond says

"Sasha has done a great job in Springfield but with all of their contracted players he hasn't had the chance to play too much lately. We're happy to have him back in Bakersfield. Filip is a young college guy who wants to show what he can do. He is a strong-skating defenseman who makes a good first pass and has good skills. We'll see how he adapts to the pro game."
