Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Forward Ashton Rome has been returned to the Idaho Steelheads by the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League and will meet his Idaho teammates in Ontario, CA, in time for Friday night's game against the Reign.
Rome, 24, appeared in 21 games for the Marlies, scoring three goals and picking up five assists.
"Ashton played well up there," Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said. "Getting him back is a big boost to this hockey team. He's a physical presence up front who can really put the puck in the net."
Rome was loaned to the Marlies on December 27. He has appeared in 28 games in the ECHL with Idaho, tallying 20 points (11 goals, 9 assists). He had the team's first hat trick of the season, netting three goals in a win at Stockton on November 28.
He will be in uniform and in the lineup Friday night when Idaho takes on the Ontario Reign. The game begins at 8 PM (Mtn) and can be heard on KTIK (1350 AM) in the Treasure Valley or watched online via the B2 Network.
The Nesbitt, Manitoba, native is in his first season with the Steelheads. He played two seasons in the AHL, the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America, before splitting last season between the AHL and ECHL. He's been drafted twice by NHL teams - by the Boston Bruins in 2004 and San Jose Sharks in 2006. His older brother, Aaron, is a defenseman for the NHL's Vancouver Canucks.
Idaho returns to Qwest Arena to host the Alaska Aces on Wednesday, February 24. Tickets are available at the Qwest Arena box office or by calling 208.331.TIXS. Group outings are a great way to get friends, family, co-workers, or colleagues together to enjoy a night out at great savings over walk-up ticket prices.
