PNC Bank Sponsors 2016 'War of the Roses' Baseball Rivalry
March 23, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers and York Revolution are pleased to announce that PNC Bank is the new title sponsor for the 10th season of the War of the Roses series. The 20-game series will feature an even split of ten games played at each club's home ballpark throughout the season. The friendly grudge match series will culminate with the victor being awarded the new PNC Bank Community Cup.
According to Vince Bulik, Barnstormers Vice President of Business Development, the series had lacked a corporate sponsor for several years. "We are incredibly appreciative that PNC has stepped up to support baseball and the community in such a big way. The addition of PNC as the corporate sponsor brings a renewed energy to the series and will provide new opportunities to engage fans."
"PNC has a strong legacy of serving the Lancaster and York communities. It was a natural fit to connect our brand with the historical significance and the neighborly rivalry that the War of the Roses series represents," said Jim Hoehn, PNC Bank regional president in Central Pennsylvania. "This sponsorship reflects our community commitment and supports the quality of life that makes this region such a great place to live and work."
New Logo and Enhanced High School Home Run Derby
This year, the Barnstormers and Revolution partnered with Skye Design Studios to develop the new War of the Roses identity. The idea was to continue growing the spirited competition while retaining the historical significance of the Red Rose versus the White Rose. The new brand design was created featuring PNC Bank along with nostalgic elements to symbolize both York and Lancaster.
"We saw this as a chance to expand on two team brands as well as enhance the profile of a long-standing rivalry within the Atlantic League," said Skye Dillon of design firm SDS. "The identity combines a classic baseball motif with references to medieval heraldry, the historic link between the red and white rose affiliations for each city."
Also new for 2016 is a PNC-sponsored War of the Roses High School Hitting Competition prior to each of the ten games at Clipper Magazine Stadium. One winner will be determined at the final competition to take home the PNC High School Home Run Derby trophy.
The current score in War of the Roses stands at 5-4 in favor of the York Revolution. With the Barnstormers anxious to tie up the series, fans can count on fiercely competitive games this season. Opening day for the 2016 PNC Bank War of the Roses Series is Monday, May 16, at Clipper Magazine Stadium starting at 7:00 PM.
