Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME - In a flurry of activity that closely mirrors the bustle at the polls this election day, the Portland Pirates announced several player personnel moves. Left wing Colin Forbes has been signed by the Washington Capitals, the Pirates' National Hockey League affiliate, to a Standard Players Contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. The Capitals elected not to re-sign left wing Scott Pellerin to a new professional tryout after the expiration of the initial PTO under which he was playing.

Forbes played his first game with the Pirates on October 15th at Manchester. He has two goals and seven points in nine games played, ranking him second in team scoring. In parts of three seasons with the Pirates, the native of New Westminster, British Columbia has played in 92 games, scoring 28 goals and 48 assists for 76 points.

Pellerin was a training camp invitee. He signed a PTO prior to the start of the season. The native of Shediac, New Brunswick earned three assists in six games.

The Pirates also announced Tuesday that the Capitals had recalled goaltender Rastislav Stana. It is Stana's first NHL recall. In six games this season, he has posted a record of 3-2-0 in six games. He leads the team with a 1.84 goals-against average and has a .931 save percentage. The native of Kosice, Slovakia earned his first shutout of the season, making 22 saves in a 3-0 win over the Norfolk Admirals on November 1st. He has won his last three starts. His goals-against average ranks eleventh in the American Hockey League. The Capitals visit the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 7:00 p.m.

To fill his spot in the net, the Pirates brought in goaltender Matt Yeats, a former University of Maine netminder who played last season for the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in the ECHL. Yeats, a native of Innisfail, Alberta helped the Bullies win the ECHL's Kelly Cup last season, his first as a professional.

The Pirates are back on the ice on Friday night, November 7th when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. It's a Margaritas Frozen Friday with the Pirates. On Saturday, the Pirates will visit the Manchester Monarchs before returning home on Sunday, November 9th to host the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. That day is also a Fleet Family Four Pack Day. In addition, fans are encouraged to bring their skates for a post-game skate with the team. Tickets for both home games are on sale all week at the Cumberland County Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be ordered by phone at (207) 775-3458, (207) 775-3331 or on-line at Ticketmaster.com.
