Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba â The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have again teamed up with Shoppers Mall to give western Manitoba hockey fans the opportunity to vote for their choice of "Player of the Year".
Beginning this week, fans will be able to vote for their favorite player two ways â 1) by visiting BDO Dunwoody Fan Services during each Wheat King home game or 2) going on line at www.wheatkings.com
This marks the fourth year that Shoppers Mall has given local fans the opportunity to select the team's Most Valuable Player. However, there will be a new winner this season as former all star right-winger Jordin Tootoo has captured the award the past three years. A fan favorite during his entire WHL career, Tootoo is currently skating with the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League.
The deadline for fans to vote is Monday, March 8th 2004 with the 2003-04 winner to be announced during the Wednesday, March 10th game against the visiting Saskatoon Blades.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings travel to Saskatoon Tuesday night hoping to snap a 2-game losing streak. Brandon had it's 10-game points (7-0-2-1) streak snapped this past weekend when it dropped both ends of a 2-game home stand against the two Eastern Conference division leaders â Prince Albert and Swift Current. Brandon returns home this weekend to face off against the second place Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday.
Before this weekend, however, three members of the Wheat Kings will be traveling out to Virden as Coca Cola Bottling and Brandon Source for Sports will host it's second to last Minor Hockey Caravan visit of the season. Veteran center Tyler Dyck will be joined by 17-year old Thompson product Teegan Moore and 16-year old rookie Codey Burki. As well, veterans Ryan Stone and JonathanWebb will be visiting Linden Lanes for lunch on Thursday as Manitoba Public Insurance, Pita Place and the Wheat Kings host their monthly "Salute to School Patrols."
