
Pittsfield Sweeps Twinbill From Federals

PITTSFIELD, MA - Angel Molina had six hits and drove in five runs and both Keith Beauregard and Jerod Edmondson went deep twice over the course of two games as the Pittsfield Colonials swept a doubleheader from the New York Federals by scores of 16-2 and 5-3.
Game two was the tighter of the two contests. With Pittsfield leading 1-0 in the third inning, Edmondson hit his 10th homer of the season to double the Colonials lead. New York scored in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the inning, Beauregard hit his second homer of the twinbill, a shot to left-center that made it 4-1.
New York would close the game back to a run in the fifth on a double by Tom Maloney, but Pittsfield once again came back as in the bottom of the frame, Angel Molina singled home Billy Mottram to push the lead to 5-3. It was Molina's sixth hit of the DH and his fifth RBI. He now has 31 RBI in 23 second half games.
The game two win went to Pat Moran (8-3) who allowed one earned run in five innings. Chris Rubio tossed the final two innings to earn his third save. Fernando Rijo (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits in four innings, taking the loss for the Federals.
In game one, the Colonials scored in every inning but the second with their high-water mark being the fifth when they plated seven runs. Pittsfield hit four homers in the game including the first homerun since September 2, 2007 for Beauregard. Edmondson, Chris Torres and Angel Molina also went deep for the Colonials.
Beauregard now has 10 homers in his career, four of them coming on August 10.
The win went to David Qualben (5-5) who allowed two runs over five innings. James Kukucka (3-6) took the loss for New York.
The Colonials and Federals play another doubleheader tomorrow consisting of two, seven-inning games, beginning at 5 p.m. T. J. Wink (3-0, 2.30) and Tim Stronach (1-2, 3.52) will go for Pittsfield against Luis Pardo (0-8, 6.29) and Kyle Putnam (1-5, 6.42) for new York.
