New Jersey Jackals News Release

Quebec City, QC - In a game that featured three ejections, seven unearned runs, and heavy rain during the middle innings, the New Jersey Jackals pushed past the Quebec Capitales, 9-5, on Wednesday night at Stade Municipal. The victory was the Jackals' sixth in their past seven meetings with Quebec.

Nick Giarraputo and Sean Smith each homered and collected three hits as the Jackals improved to 41-30 overall and 14-10 in the second half.

Quebec opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Sebastien Boucher singled with two outs and scored two batters later when Bobby Wagner flared a double down the left field line.

New Jersey retaliated, though, scoring the game's next five runs to open up a 5-1 lead. The Jackals strung together three straight hits to open the second inning, evening the score at 1-1 on a double to right center off the bat of Jordan Newton. A Chris White RBI groundout gave the Jackals a 2-1 advantage. In the third, a Josh Colafemina error plated two more runs. Smith's fifth homer of the season, a leadoff blast in the fourth, made it 5-1.

The Capitales plated three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit to 5-4, but New Jersey again rallied for the game's next four runs. In the fifth inning, Giarraputo homered off the scoreboard in right field to make it a 6-4 contest. The Jackals extended their lead to 9-4 in the sixth inning on a pair of RBI singles by Jimenez and Kris Sanchez and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Giarraputo.

Quebec capped the scoring in the seventh on a Mitch Delaney RBI single.

New Jersey starter Michael Moore (4-0) allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits to pick up the victory while Quebec starter Karl Gelinas (6-5) surrendered six runs (four earned) on six hits over five innings.

The Jackals and Capitales meet for the final time in the regular season on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Municipal when New Jersey sends southpaw Jon Kibler (0-4, 7.05 ERA) to the mound against Quebec right-hander Matthew Rusch (5-4, 3.28 ERA). Cody Chrusciel has the call on the live webcast beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
