Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have signed Pittsburgh native Brenden Alfery for the 2016 United Soccer League season.
Goalkeeper Alfery has signed his first professional contract with the Hounds after playing his junior and senior college seasons at Robert Morris University. He started all 37 games for the Colonials during his time in Moon Township.
The 21-year-old from Cheswick played his club soccer for Century United and attended Central Catholic High School before spending two seasons at the NCAA Division III level with Grove City College.
Alfery supplemented his college experience over the past two summers by playing under inaugural Riverhounds head coach John Kowalski at Fort Pitt Regiment in the National Premier Soccer League.
The Riverhounds had previously brought back veteran goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap and added Costa Rican stopper Mauricio Vargas to compete for the starting slot between the posts.
Preseason continues this Sunday, March 6, when Ohio State University visits Highmark Stadium for the Hounds' second warm-up game. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. and admission is free.
The Hounds begin the 2016 USL campaign on April 2 when reigning champion Rochester Rhinos visit Highmark Stadium.
