Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes could not avoid another big inning by the San Angelo Colts as the Coyotes lost 17-7 at Foster Field Monday night.

John Maschino only lasted 1 1/3 as he received his third loss of the year (0-3). He gave up nine runs (8 earned) on seven hits.

The Coyotes were off to a good start in the second inning with two singles by Robert Matlock and Patrick Gaylord. After Matlock was forced out by a fielder's choice from Alex Entrekin, Angelo Fermin hit a three run home run to the left field that gave the Coyotes a 3-0 lead. That was his first home run of the year.

But the Colts' offense was not done from the previous game as they scored 11 runs off of eight hits. The big hit came off the bat of Bryan Frichter who had a grand slam and a double in the second inning alone. After the second inning the Colts led 11-3.

The Coyotes added a run in the top of the third inning off the bat of Logan Wood. Wood hit his fourth home run of the season to right field that made the score 11-4.

The Colts added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bric Steed quickly got two outs but the Colts got back to back singles by Andres Rodriguez and Jason Crossland. After a walk by Aaron Cone, Jose Torres hit an RBI single into left field scoring Rodriguez from third. Crossland came in to score the second run of the inning on a bases loaded walk by Wyn Diggs that made the score 13-4.

The Coyotes tried to stay in the game as Mayobanex Santana started off the seventh inning with a single and then he later came in to score on a Daryl Jones two run home run (6). With the score 13-6, Matlock got a single to keep the inning alive. He later scored on an RBI single by Entrekin that made the score 13-7.

The Colts answered the Coyotes' three run top of the seventh with a four run bottom half of the inning. The Colts sent nine batters to the plate scoring four runs on six hits to make the score 17-7.

Brian Henschel got his second win of the year (2-2) after going six and 2/3 innings allowing seven runs and striking out nine.

The Coyotes will face the Amarillo Dillas Tuesday night at the Dilla Villa in Amarillo. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Coyotes and Dillas will finish their May 25th game on Wednesday afternoon, which was delayed by bad weather, and then they will play their scheduled game after the makeup game.
