
Broncos Offense Explodes in Series Win Over Harlingen

Harlingen, TX-The Laredo Broncos would use a 5 run inning and a 6 run inning to take the rubber game against the Harlingen WhiteWings at Harlingen Field by a score of 13-6 on Monday night. The Broncos return home for the start of a 6 game home stand, as they start a 3 game series with the San Angelo Colts on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos offense got the scoring going in the top of the 1st inning against WhiteWings starter Angel Cordero. Steven Wright led off the game with a walk. He would then score when Arnoldo Ponce connected on a 2 run home run, his 3rd of the season, giving Laredo the early 2-0 lead.
The WhiteWings would strike back in their half of the 1st inning. Bub Bergstrom and Kevin Griffin both walked to start the inning. After a strikeout, Ryan Fox was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Argelis Nunez would hit into a fielder's choice, forcing out Fox at 2nd. Bergstrom would score on that play as well. With David Fowler batting Nunez stole 2nd and on the throwing error by catcher Luany Sanchez he went to 3rd base and Griffin scored. Fowler would then double scoring Nunez. Fowler would then go to 3rd on the 2nd wild pitch of the inning by Gregorio Martinez. Terry Roblez would then single in Fowler giving Harlingen the 4-2 lead.
The WhiteWings would add to their lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one out Candelario Perez walked. He would then go to 2nd base on a single by Amadeo Zazueta. Then Bub Bergstrom would hit an infield single to load the bases. Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez would then walk Kevin Griffin to force in Perez. The very next batter Brian Nichols would also walk scoring Zazueta. That would make the score 6-2 in favor of the WhiteWings.
The Broncos bats would get Laredo back in the game in the top of the 5th inning. Anthony Bennett led off with a walk and went to 2nd on a single by Steven Wright. Then Arnoldo Ponce hit a 2 run double scoring both Bennett and Wright. Dwayne White would groundout for the first out, but Ponce would move to 3rd. Luany Sanchez would then hit a single scoring Ponce. Then with 2 outs Ivan Reyes would walk. Ben Tinius would then hit a triple scoring both Sanchez and Reyes. That would give the Broncos the lead by a score of 7-6.
Gregorio Martinez would end up pitching 5 innings and be in line for the win. He gave up 6 runs, on 4 hits, he walked 8 batters, and struck out 6.
Justin Staatz came into the game in the bottom of the 6th inning for the Broncos and pitched a scoreless inning. That was followed by a scoreless 7th inning by David Wasylak.
The Broncos would blow the game open in the top of 8th inning. Ivan Reyes led off the inning with a walk against WhiteWings reliever Derek Bennett. Ben Tinius would then single advancing Reyes to 2nd. Matt Lawman then came up and laid down a bunt trying to advance the runners. The catcher for Harlingen Kevin Griffin would come up with it, but throw the ball into right field allowing Reyes and Tinius to score and Lawman himself would go 3rd. As Lawman was going to third the throw from the right fielder got by the 3rd baseman allowing Lawman to score on the play. Anthony Bennett would then come up and single. That hit would chase Harlingen's Bennett from the game and bring Brandon Kling in. Steven Wright and Arnoldo Ponce would greet Kling with back to back singles to load the bases. Dwayne White would then hit a 2 run single scoring Bennett and Wright. Luany Sanchez would then hit into a double play, but Ponce would score. In total the Broncos would score 6 runs on 7 hits and benefit from the 2 errors by Harlingen. That would make the score 13-6 Laredo with the lead.
Wasylak would finish off his outing with a 1-2-3 8th inning. Nathan Crawford would then come into the game in the 9th inning and held Harlingen scoreless giving the Broncos a 13-6 victory.
The Broncos scored 13 runs on 14 hits and committed 1 error, while the WhiteWings scored 6 runs on 4 hits and committed 4 errors. With the 13 runs, the Broncos ended up scoring 33 total runs in the 3 games against Harlingen.
The Broncos improve to 17-15 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday night for game 1 of 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts in Laredo at 7:35.
