(Eastlake, OH)--Three Captains pitchers combined on a six-hitter and threw shutout baseball for eight innings Monday night, leading the Captains to a 7-2 win over the Hickory Crawdads at Classic Park.

J.D. Martin, Doodle Hicks and Mark Jecmen combined to shut down the Crawdads and gain a split in the four game series. Although the Captains won, they remain six games out of first place in the SAL North. The Lakewood BlueClaws defeated Lexington 8-2 Monday to maintain their lead over the Captains.

Martin worked the first three innings of Monday's game, his rehab limit. It was the second straight scoreless outing for Martin, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery last year. Hicks (2-0) came on to relieve Martin in the fourth and threw five shutout innings before giving up two runs in the ninth. He left with one out in the ninth, and Jecmen recorded the final two outs.

Hicks scattered five hits, walked two and fanned two.

The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo homer by Chris Gimenez off Hickory starter Luis Valez (7-5). They extended the lead to 3-0 on an RBI single by Mike Conroy in the second and an RBI double by Nick Petrucci in the third. Petrucci was 3-4 on the night with a pair of RBI.

Petrucci and P.J. Hiser delivered RBI doubles during a three-run seventh against Brian Holliday as the Captains built a 6-0 lead. Gimenez collected his second RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly in the eighth off Jake Cuffman to make it 7-0.

The Crawdads committed four errors in the game, while the Captains played without a miscue.

The Captains won the season-series with the Crawdads, 5-3.

The Captains will remain at home for the next four games. The Delmarva Shorebirds will begin their final visit to Classic Park on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jim Deters will start for the Captains against RHP Reid Hamblet of the Shorebirds.

A special fundraiser for Lake County flood relief will take place at Classic Park on Tuesday afternoon as 77 South will perform a pre-game concert beginning at 5:00 p.m. Admission for the concert and game is just $5 per person with proceeds going to the Lake County chapter of the American Red Cross.
