Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - With eight home games remaining, the Sand Gnats have already drawn over 4,000 more fans than last season's total. Nearly 77,000 fans have already been through the gates at Historic Grayson Stadium this summer. At the current rate of 1,302 fans per game, the team is on pace to draw just over 87,000 at season's end. That would represent an increase of 49 percent since the 2004 season.
Sand Gnats owner John Simmons purchased the team prior to the 2005 season and expects to see attendance figures well over 100,000 for 2007. If the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) passes on September 19, fans next season could see the implementation of the first phase of an up to $10 million renovation project at Grayson Stadium.
The Sand Gnats' eight-game final homestand begins Thursday, August 24 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rome Braves. For tickets and a complete schedule, visit www.sandgnats.com or call the Sand Gnats offices at 912-351-9150.
