July 29, 2004 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Cleveland Indians announced today that right-handed pitcher Evan Thomas has been signed to a Triple-A contract and has been assigned to the Buffalo Bisons. The 30-year old was 8-1 with a 3.62 ERA in 13 games this year with the Camden Riversharks of the Independent Atlantic League.
Thomas was having a great season with the Riversharks as he led the team in wins as well as strikeouts (66) in 2004. He allowed just 76 hits in 87.0 innings of work, limiting opponents to a .238 average. Thomas went the distance in two of his 13 starts, including a three-hit shutout of the Nashua Pride on July 2 (7-0).
In 2003, Thomas pitched in 20 games with the Syracuse SkyChiefs, posting a 4-8 record with a 5.15 ERA. He appeared in two games at Dunn Tire Park that year, going 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA. In 2002, Thomas went 10-2 with a 3.90 ERA in 22 games with the Scranton/W-B Red Barons. In his Triple-A career, he has gone 30-34 with a 4.37 ERA in 92 games.
This is the second time this year the Indians have signed a player from the Camden Riversharks. On May 18, the Tribe purchased the contract of current Bisons reliever Kane Davis.
