Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - A slow offensive start got the (7-3) Traverse City Pit Spitters down 7-2, but they scored nine unanswered runs across three innings to complete the comeback win over the (4-6) Kalamazoo Growlers 11-7.
Chris Monroe got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first, but the bats went cold after.
The Growlers scored five runs in the second, forcing Rylan Tinsley out of the game due to the 35-pitch rule. His team would rally and pick him up in the sixth.
Three straight singles by Monroe, Colin Summerhill and Crews Taylor had the Pit Spitters rolling. Zeb Roos got hit by a pitch to score one, and Jake Arnold knocked in another. With two outs, Trey Truitt missed a game-tying home run by inches, hitting a two RBI double off the wall. Truitt had three hits on the night, raising his average to .412 and giving him a team high 14 hits on the season.
Roos tied the game in the seventh with a two-out RBI double, and Taylor gave his team the lead, scoring on a throwing error. Arnold singled home Roos and Traverse City led 9-7 after seven innings. Two more runs scored in the eighth, giving the bullpen all they would need.
Wyatt Rush (1-0) made his season debut, facing the minimum through two innings. He struck out the first and last batters he faced. Evan Gates threw a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the 11-7 win. The bullpen retired the last 10 Kalamazoo batters faced.
