Bridgeport Islanders News Release
It only took 2:14 for the Portland Pirates to score three goals in the second period against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to earn the 3-2 victory. Ryan Dingle, Gordie Dwyer and Tyler Bouck registered the goals for the Pirates, snapping the Sound Tigers winning streak at two.
In the first period, the Sound Tigers took the 1-0 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the period when Tim Jackman finished a two-on-one with Frans Nielsen. The two Sound Tiger forwards came in over the blue-line with Nielsen carrying the puck. Nielsen feathered a pass under the Portland defenseman's stick to Jackman who wristed a shot through the legs of Pirates' goaltender, Mike McKenna for his fourth goal of the season. Ryan Kinasewich also assisted on the goal.
Portland's offense went to work at the 12:06 mark when Dingle scored his first goal of the season while his team was on the power-play. Matt Christie, who was recalled from the ECHL yesterday, and Joe Callahan had the assists on the goal. The Pirates would take the lead 42 seconds later when Dwyer, an invite to the Sound Tigers' and Islanders' training camps this season, scored his first goal of the season. Defenseman Bruno St. Jacques snapped a shot on net that Sound Tigers' goalie, Joey MacDonald made the save on but Dwyer shoveled the rebound in giving his team the 2-1 lead. Stephen Dixon had the second assist on the goal. The Pirates added to their lead at 14:20 with Bouck's third goal of the season. Simon Ferguson and Petteri Wirtanen assisted on Bouck's goal to increase Portland's lead to 3-1.
The Sound Tigers would tack on a goal before the final period would end when Jeremy Colliton back-handed a loose puck over McKenna tightening the score at 3-2 with 51 seconds remaining in regulation. Joe Rullier and Darryl Bootland had the assists on Colliton's fourth goal of the season.
MacDonald finished the game with 22 saves on 25 shots while his counterpart, McKenna stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced. The Sound Tigers were 0-2 on the power-play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.
Next up for the Sound Tigers is their game on Wednesday against the Albany River Rats at Arena at Harbor Yard. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
