June 28, 2018 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Bristol State Liners News Release

After losing their last four games against the Princeton Rays, the Bristol Pirates came away with a 12-5 victory on Thursday for their first win against Princeton since last June.

The Pirates combined to hit five home runs in the win, which tied the team's single-game record going back to 2005. Mason Martin hit his fifth home run with Bristol -- a grand slam in the fourth inning -- to bring his season total to nine home runs between Bristol and the Single-A affiliate West Virginia Power. Two games after hitting his first career home run, Jonah Davis hit two home runs against the Rays, including a leadoff home run to begin the game. Chase Lambert had a career-high four hits, including his first career home run, while finishing a triple short of the cycle. Sherten Apostel also homered for his first of the 2018 season.

After allowing four runs over 3 1/3 innings in his first start, Roger Santana allowed only one run over five innings to earn his first win of 2018. Will Kobos allowed one run over two innings while striking out three, while Austin Shields allowed three runs over two innings with two strikeouts to close out the game.

With 12 runs scored on Thursday, the Pirates have now scored 72 runs this month -- the second-highest total in the month of June going back to 2005. The record for the month of June in that span is 73 runs scored, which was accomplished by the Bristol White Sox in 2008. The Pirates now have six wins this year, which is the most wins for Bristol in the month of June since 2008 when they compiled a 9-3 record.

The Pirates (6-3) are now second in the Appalachian League West Division, and they will face Princeton again on Friday night in the second game of their three-game series. Colin Selby will get the start against the Rays after throwing three perfect innings with two strikeouts in his professional debut against the Elizabethton Twins on June 23.
