WORCESTER, MASS. - The Massachusetts Pirates are happy to announce the hiring of Patrick Pass as the team's head coach for the 2021 season. Pass has been with the organization since their inaugural season in 2018 and truly believes the Pirates have what it takes to be successful in the IFL. "It's simple, a great team, great coaches and great owners should yield great results. Just win." Pass was initially hired by the Pirates as Director of Player Development ahead of the 2018 season. He was then hired as head coach for the 2020 season last November. Ultimately, the Pirates' 2020 season was cancelled. Pass will now get to coach his first game for Massachusetts when the 2021 season begins next March.

Pirates Founder, President and General Manager Jawad Yatim is excited to see Pass take the reigns as head coach. "I'm certainly glad to have Pat back on board. I know he's going to exhaust all the potential within our roster and staff and get the best out of our guys, which is of course beneficial from a team perspective but also a player developmental standpoint in the sense that our players come here with the goal of leaving a better athlete and person. Pat in my opinion will assist in expediting that process for them. I am excited to see the culture he establishes here, and it's a pleasure being able to work with him and having him back aboard our ship."

Before joining the Pirates, Pass was the defensive coordinator at Woonsocket High School in Rhode Island, as well as the defensive backs coach for the Boston Renegades, a women's tackle football team, in 2015. Three years prior, Pass was the head coach of the Boston Freedom Fighters, a professional developmental team that played in the National Spring Football League.

Pass enjoyed an eight-year NFL career as a member of the New England Patriots and New York Giants. He won three Super Bowl titles with New England before retiring from the NFL in 2009. Pass played college football at the University of Georgia from 1996-1999, while growing up in Scottdale, Georgia, less than 10 miles outside of the state capital Atlanta.
