Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The six-time world champion Arizona Rattlers have appointed former General Manager Kevin Guy to take over the role of Team President in preparation for the 2021 Indoor Football League season.
"Kevin's dedication to our franchise is unmatched. He brings a wealth of team financial and business experience to our organization," said Team Owner Ron Shurts. "Kevin has proven leadership skills, as well as an ongoing commitment to building a winning culture both on and off the field."
Guy, who joined the Rattlers front office and coaching staff in 2008, will also enter his 12th season as the team's Head Coach. Under his direction, the Rattlers have appeared in seven championship games in the last nine years, including winning four championships.
During Guy's 20 seasons coaching indoor football, he has compiled a regular season record of 211-70 (.751%), making him the winningest head coach in Arizona Rattlers history. In 2011 Guy earned NFL Network Coach of the Year honors after leading the Rattlers to an AFL record 18 wins. In 11 years as Head Coach of the Rattlers, Guy has averaged over 14 wins per season.
On top of Guy's proven track record of success as the Rattlers Head Coach, he brings over 20 years of experience working in sales. Additionally, his leadership and management qualities have been essential in maintaining the Rattlers' status as one of premier franchises in professional football.
"I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity. I am excited by Ron's vision and forward thinking for our organization. We have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased that Ron has the confidence in me to get the job done," Guy said. "We have the most loyal and passionate fans in the league. I look forward to serving Rattler Nation, corporate partners, and our community."
Coinciding with his role as Team President and Head Coach of the Rattlers, Guy has also played an integral role in the Indoor Football League's growth, serving as a member of the league's Expansion Committee. In just over two years, Guy has helped the league expand from six to 14 teams, stretching from coast to coast. In 2018, Kevin and his wife Cathy announced they would be bringing an expansion team, the Tucson Sugar Skulls, to the IFL.
Guy is also a partner of the Birmingham Bulls ownership group, which brought professional hockey back to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, after an absence of 17 years.
