
Pippins Win Sixth Straight in 9-4 Win over Kelowna

YAKIMA, Wash. - For the second time this season, the Yakima Valley Pippins have put together a six-game winning streak with a 9-4 win over the Kelowna Falcons Saturday night at County Stadium.
A crowd of 1,379 watched the Pippins (29-18) take the early lead on a Shawn Wardian RBI single in the bottom of the 2 nd. However, Kelowna (15-32) answered back in the top of the 3 rd with a two-run triple from Kody Mathews that gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 4 th, the Pippins got to Kelowna starter Austin Lambright. RBI singles by Harrison Ramey, Wardian and Mitch Skaggs put the Pippins back in front at 4-2. However, the game would go into a 32-minute lightning delay in the middle of the inning. On the very first pitch after the delay, Ryan Rosa drove in two more runs with a sharp single to left that capped a five-run 4 th inning and put the Pippins up 6-2.
With starter Matt Trask and reliever Gabe Gentner keeping the Falcons bats quiet after the two-run 3 rd inning, the Pippins continued to add to the lead. Two more runs crossed in the bottom of the 6 th to make it an 8-2 lead.
Yakima Valley would give up a pair of runs in the top of the 8 th, but got one back in the bottom of the 8 th on another RBI single for Wardian, who finished 5-6 with 3 RBI in the victory.
The Pippins not only won their sixth straight game, but clinched their 10 th series win in the first 16. Yakima Valley is 7-1 against Kelowna this season and will look to finish the season series off with one more win Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Before the game, the Pippins will honor the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak, who recently won the American Legion state championship.
