YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins extended their winning streak to five games and took over first place in the West Coast League's East Division with a 10-1 win over Kitsap Saturday night at County Stadium.

As they did Friday night, the BlueJackets (8-8) scored in the top of the 1 st, this time against Pippins starter Andrew Woods. However, just like Friday's starter Eli Morgan, Woods overcame the early struggles and settled in nicely, working 6 2/3 innings, while only giving up five hits, en route to his first win of the summer.

The Yakima Valley (14-8 overall, 11-6 West Coast League) bats gave him some support in the bottom of the 2 nd, as three straight hitters walked to leadoff the 2 nd inning, and Randy Fuller brought two of them in with a 2-run double to give the Pippins a 2-1 advantage.

That score would hold until the 6 th inning, when the Pippins scored three more runs, two on a single by Jake Roberts. The team added two in the 7 th on a home run by JC Snyder and three more runs in the 8 th, largely aided by three Kitsap errors to put the game away and send a crowd of 1,044 home happy.

"The way we've been playing lately, it's kind of been easy to pitch because you knew [run support] was coming at some point during the game," said Woods.

The win, combined with Wenatchee's 2-1 loss in Corvallis, moved Yakima Valley into first place in the West Coast League East for the first time since opening night.

"We're putting a lot of hard work in and I think we're going to stay there for a while," said Woods.

The Pippins not only extended their winning streak to five games, but also clinched their fifth straight series win. Yakima Valley goes for its second straight sweep Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m.
