LONGVIEW, WA -- The Victoria HarbourCats got multi-hit games from five different players but still saw their losing streak grow following a series-opening 9-5 loss to the host Cowlitz Black Bears on Friday Night.

Aaron Barnett, Gabe Clark, Nathan Lukes, Hunter Mercado-Hood and Sean Watkins all had at least two hits, with designated hitter Watkins leading the way with a 3-4 effort, part of an 11-hit onslaught by the HarbourCats.

Problem was, the HarbourCats struck out nine times, often in crucial situations, and watched the Black Bears belt out 14 hits. The HarbourCats have now lost eight in a row and their record falls to 5-11.

Alex Garcia started for Victoria and went four innings, giving up three runs -- only one of them earned. An error by shortstop Alex DeGoti helped Cowlitz build a 7-1 lead after six innings.

The HarbourCats will throw Nanaimo product Alex Rogers (1-0) on Saturday, hoping to halt the streak. The series concludes on Sunday with Andrew Nelson throwing for Victoria.

The HarbourCats will hold major promotions on Monday (fireworks), Tuesday (Canada Day with skydivers and patriotic events), and Wednesday (free hot dogs for kids, Elvis in the building, and Blue Jays greats on hand).
