BEND, OR - The Yakima Valley Pippins scored first, but were unable to hold off the Bend Elks, dropping the series finale, 7-4, Friday night at Vince Genna Stadium.

Christian Koss (UC Irvine) led off the game with a base hit, scoring on a two-base throwing error as Freddy Smith (Cal State Northridge) laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Jens Jensen (Central Washington) took the loss for the Pippins, pitching seven innings allowing six runs on eight hits. The Bend Elks (4-9) scored four runs in the first inning, all coming on a 2-out grand slam from Carter Aldrete.

The Pippins (9-3) would rally for three runs in the 8th kickstarted by a leadoff single from Derek Molina (Cal State Northridge). After a Michael Filia (UC Irvine) single, Smith delivered an RBI base hit followed by a 2-RBI single from Mitchell Morimoto (Arizona), cutting the deficit to 6-4.

Derek Atlee (Cal State Northridge) pitched the 8th inning, allowing one run on one hit in relief. The Pippins had the tying runs on base in the top of the 9th inning, but were unable to extend the contest, dropping their first game all season against the Bend Elks.

The Yakima Valley Pippins and Bend Elks return to Yakima County Stadium for two more games starting Saturday night at 7:05, finishing up on Father's Day for a Sunday night 5:05 p.m. first pitch.
