June 18, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- Sometimes, it is not your night at the ballpark. That was the case for the Walla Walla Sweets (6-7) in their 7-3 loss to the Bellingham Bells (6-4) on Friday night.
The Sweets got on the scoreboard first on an RBI single by Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga) in the first inning. It was his ninth RBI, which tied him for the West Coast League lead in that category.
The Sweets tacked on a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Clayten Ayres (Georgia College and State) and increased their lead with a double steal that scored Ryan Johnston (UC Irvine) from third base in the eighth inning.
Then came the ninth inning. The Bells scored seven runs to take the lead. It would hold there at 7-3.
Walla Walla got a stellar start from Jackson Weeg (Emory) who threw five shutout innings for the Sweets in the loss. Ryan Anderson (Nevada) also tossed three innings of no-hit baseball in relief in his Sweets debut.
Walla Walla will look to tie the series up tomorrow at 7:05 P.M. The Sweets send Nick Schielder (UCLA) to the mound in game two.
