Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins finished off their third sweep of the year, defeating the Victoria HarbourCats 12-3 in front of 1,227 fans at Yakima County Stadium.

For the first time in the three-game series, the Pippins (17-10) scored first, getting another safety squeeze from Jake Roberts, who had one in Tuesday's ballgame as well, to go up 1-0. They would add two more runs in the 3 rd on a sacrifice fly from JC Snyder and an RBI single from Vince Fernandez.

After Victoria scored an unearned run in the top of the 5 th, the Pippins pulled away with three more runs in the bottom of the inning, including RBI from Josh McCoy, Taylor Snyder and Shawn Wardian to make it 6-1 after five innings.

Yakima Valley starter Andrew Woods had more than enough run support to carry him from there. The right-hander out of Virginia Military Institute improved to 2-2 on the year after going six innings, giving up six hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and five strikeouts.

The Pippins continued the scoring onslaught in the 7 th inning, with five unearned runs against HarbourCats (12-15) reliever Dylan Stowell. Fernandez had the big blow in the inning, a three-run triple off the right field wall to make it 11-2. Fernandez boosted his team lead in RBI, now with 23 on the year. The Pippins outfielder also moved into a three-way tie for third place in the WCL RBI race.

With another sweep in hand, the Pippins head to Bend, Oregon Thursday for a three-game set with the Elks, who moved into a first-place tie with Corvallis in the WCL South on Wednesday night. Game one of the series begins at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday from Vince Genna Stadium.
