HarbourCats Return Home to Face Rogues following Loss

The Victoria HarbourCats will be back at Sports Traders Diamond at Royal Athletic Park on Thursday looking to reverse a losing streak after falling 12-3 to the Yakima Valley Pippins on Wednesday night -- the last game of a six-game road swing.

The HarbourCats (12-15) are attempting to set a World Record on Thursday for the Most Ceremonial First Pitches, starting at 8:30 am at Sports Traders Diamond, and the HarbourCats will start a three-game home series with the Medford (Oregon) Rogues that night, a 7:11pm game time.

The HarbourCats, who arrived in Yakima riding a seven-game winning streak, got 2-4 hitting performances each from Gabe Clark and Bryce Greager, who had two runs driven in, but could not overcome a walk-fest from the pitching staff. Starter Tim Peabody walked eight in 4.1 innings, then Dylan Stowell and Mark Marinch came in and also had trouble find the strike zone. In total, Victoria pitchers gave out 12 free passes, in addition to hitting two batters, and making four errors didn't help.

Yakima pitchers walked two Victoria batters in front of 1,227 announced at Yakima County Stadium. Yakima scored three in the fifth and five in the seventh.

The HarbourCats seemed to get a break on Wednesday as the Kitsap BlueJackets surprised the powerhouse Bellingham Bells with 12-3 lead in the ninth inning. Bellingham was on a 12-game win streak, Kitsap had lost 13 in a row. The HarbourCats are trailing Bellingham for first in the West Division, and have set their sights on the wild card spot to be one of the four WCL playoff teams. That spot is currently held by the Bend Elks.
