Pincavitch Gets Win in All-Star Game

Quebec, PQ- Five Bangor Lumberjacks represented the club at the 2003 Northeast League All-Star Game in Quebec City, PQ on Tuesday night. The U.S. All-Stars defeated the World All-Stars, 5-0, behind the strong pitching of the United States squad.

Taking home the win in the game was Bangor’s Kevin Pincavitch. Pincavitch who is 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA on the season as the Lumberjacks ace and pitching coach, tossed a scoreless second and third inning behind All-Star game starter John Kelly (North Shore). Pincavitch surrendered one hit and one walk, while striking out two.

Also pitching in the game from the Lumberjacks was Jerry Long, who tossed a perfect sixth inning for the U.S. team, getting a batter to ground out and two to fly out. Santiago Henry, pitching for the World Team, which was led by Lumberjacks Manager Kash Beauchamp, also hurled a scoreless inning in his appearance. Henry closed out the U.S team in the ninth.

At the plate, Bangor’s Donnie Ross, elected to start at first base for the U.S., went 0-3 with an RBI. Ross drove in the first run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly to score Elmira’s Cleatus Davidson in the fourth inning. C Brad Hargreaves, selected to the U.S. Team by Brockton Rox manager Ed Nottle, entered the game in the sixth, but went hitless in one plate appearance.

The rest of the Lumberjacks now travel to Quebec to begin a four game series with Les Capitales Wednesday night. The Lumberjacks are back at Mahaney Diamond on Sunday August 3 to begin a seven game home stand. Sunday is WEZQ 92.9 FM Family Fun Day meaning that fans have the opportunity to purchase a Jack Pack, which includes four reserved tickets to the game, four hot dogs, four programs, a pre-game ball toss on the field and a post game running of the bases and party piñata courtesy of Cumulus Broadcasting.
