Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors scored three runs in the seventh to come from behind and take the lead from the North Shore Spirit, and won the game 5-1 Wednesday night in Lynn, Massachusetts.

The game was a pitcher's duel between Miguel Perez and Klae Calvert through five and a half innings, with neither team scoring a run, although Perez did strand four runners in the first two innings, including a bases loaded situation in the second. Carlos Sepulveda would break the scoreless deadlock with a solo home run, his fourth, on the first pitch he saw in the sixth.

The Ambassadors responded in the seventh, with some help from the Spirit. Vic Davilla reached on an error on Marcos Agramonte with one out, then Marlon Roche hit a slow ground ball to third that Billy Malone tried to get Davilla out at second with, but Agramonte would commit another error, and everyone was safe. Brian Macchi followed with a slowly hit double down the left field line, scoring Davilla and tying the game. Greg Schmidt followed with a bloop double down the right field line, scoring both Roche and Macchi and giving the Ambassadors the 3-1 lead.

The Ambassadors would add another run in the eighth, and a run in the ninth on a solo home run from Macchi, his second of the season. Macchi finished the night 3-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and the home run. The Spirit did get two runners on base in the ninth, but the Ambassadors hung on for the 5-1 win.

Miguel Perez got the win, pitching eight innings and allowing just one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. The win is his fifth in a row, he is now 5-3 on the season. Calvert gets the tough luck loss, giving up four runs, just one earned, through seven and two thirds innings. He is now 6-3. Justin Keeling got one out in the ninth to pick up his first save. The Ambassadors are now 7-11 in the second half, while the Spirit fall to 9-8. The two teams play again tomorrow, in a twelve o'clock start, with Nolan Fry taking on the Spirit ace John Kelly. The game will not be broadcast over WXLV and will only be available through the internet at www.ambassadorbaseball.com.
