Pilots And Hawkeyes Halted In Cooperstown
June 24, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Newark Pilots News Release
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - Friday evening's Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest between the Newark Pilots and the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at Doubleday Field was halted because of lightning in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Pilots leading 1-0. A rain storm moved through Cooperstown during the lightning delay and soaked the field, rendering it unplayable. The game is considered a halted game and will be resumed from the point of stoppage at a later date.
The lone run in the contest was tallied in the top of the sixth inning. Newark's Randy Villa (San Joaquin Delta) belted a two-out solo home run off of Cooperstown reliever Jacob Cadle (Greensboro).
The PGCBL West tilt was largely a pitchers' duel between Newark's Carson Beauchaine (Saginaw Valley State) and Cooperstown's Conor Kerins (West Chester). Beauchaine blanked the Hawkeyes through five and one-third innings. He held Cooperstown to two singles and struck out four. Conor Kerins pitched four shutout innings and fanned five Newark batters. The Cooperstown starter held Newark to a lone single in the second inning. Jacob Cadle pitched two frames of relief and allowed one run on two hits.
Statistics from the game will not be final until the game is completed.
