The Glens Falls Golden Eagles swept a double header from the Amsterdam Mohawks on Friday night at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, NY.
The Golden Eagles took the first game 6-2 behind five solid innings from Nick Gonzalez (USF). The lefthander surrendered just a single run on five hits while walking three and striking out six. With the win Gonzalez moves to 1-0 on the summer.
Jimmy Dykstra (LSU) got his first start for Amsterdam and dropped to 0-2 after allowing two runs on six hits in five innings of work.
The Golden Eagles got two in the second when Dykstra balked in a run and then Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) scolded a single to right to drive another. The visiting team tacked on three more against Bryce Eisenbart (Paradise Valley C.C) in the sixth, the latter two came on two-run single from Pisani who was 2-3 with a couple of singles and three runs driven in.
Parker Morin (Utah) and Josh Netheway (Albany) drove in the only runs for Amsterdam in the second and seventh innings respectively.
Game two featured more of the same as the Golden Eagles took down Amsterdam 4-1. Neil Fryer (Siena) got the start for the visiting Golden Eagles and worked 5.1 innings without allowing a run and pushes his record to 3-0 on the season.
Nick Polsinelli (College of St. Rose) got the loss for the home Mohawks after working the first four innings and allowing a single run on three hits while striking out six. Polsinelli was lifted before the top of the fifth after setting down the last seven Golden Eagles that he faced.
Zac Hawkins (LSU-Eunice) knocked in the first run of the game in the top of the first on a single and the Golden Eagles added three more in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Josh Anderson (Yavapai) and a run-scoring double off Dave Olsen's (Tacoma C.C.) bat.
With the loss Polsinelli drops to 1-1 and Peter Noordsy (Wofford) recorded his first save of the year after he worked the final inning and two thirds.
Both games were completed in seven innings. The double header was the result of a rain out on June 11th.
