
Pillar Homers But Fisher Cats Drop Two

TRENTON, NJ - Kevin Pillar had three hits, including his third home run, but the Fisher Cats dropped a doubleheader on Tuesday night in Trenton by scores of 6-4 and 2-1 in eight innings.
In the nightcap, Trenton put three consecutive hits together in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the win. J. R. Murphy doubled and Slade Heathcott followed with a bunt single. Ali Castillo singled through a drawn-in infield off Trystan Magnuson (1-1) for the win.
The Fisher Cats (11-15) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning of the nightcap. Pillar singled, stole second, advanced to third on a fielders choice and scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead.
Trenton's first run was also unearned. Heathcott reached on an error and when Castillo's single slipped past Adam Loewen in right field, Heathcott scored the tying run.
New Hampshire starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx worked the first four innings, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out four. Chorye Spoone and Chad Back combined for three scoreless innings in relief.
Trenton's Tommy Kahnle (1-1) worked around base runners in the top of the seventh and eighth innings to earn his first win in relief of starter Caleb Cotham.
In the opener, Heathcott ripped a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally the Thunder to a 6-4 win.
The Fisher Cats took leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 4-3 on home runs by Pillar in the first inning, Clint Robinson in the second and Ricardo Nanita in the fifth inning.
Ryan Tepera (3-1) lost for the first time in 2013. He worked the first four innings, allowing four hits and five runs (four earned). He walked four and struck out five. After allowing the first two batters to reach in the fifth on singles, Matt Wright came into the game and allowed the winning homer.
Matt Tracy (2-2) won for Trenton, working six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out five. Brandon Pinder worked around a Jack Murphy double in the top of the seventh inning for his second save.
