Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Akron returned the favor on Tuesday night, shutting out the Altoona Curve, 5-0, at Peoples Natural Gas Field, one night after the Curve shutout the Aeros. The shutout by the Aeros marks the fourth time the Curve have been held scoreless this season.
Giovanny Urshela made sure that the Aeros were not shutout on consecutive nights. Urshela blasted a solo home-run over the left field fence in the top half of the second inning to put Akron in front 1-0.
Urshela singled to lead off the fifth inning to put the Aeros back in business. Bo Greenwell followed with a two-run home run over the right field fence making it 3-0 in favor of the Aeros.
David Bromberg worked a season-high six innings for the Curve allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out four. The start was the first for Bromberg (0-3) since April 15 when he took the mound against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He had made his last three appearances out of the bullpen before turning in his quality start tonight. In his two starts this season, the Curve have yet to score a run.
The Aeros tacked on two more runs in the top half of the eighth inning against Altoona's Kenn Kasparek. Kasparek was lifted from the game with one out and the bases loaded in favor of left-hander Nate Baker. Baker got Ronny Rodriguez to fly out to right field for the second out. Alex Dickerson made the catch in right and fired a laser to Carlos Paulino at the plate to cut down Jesus Aguilar. The outfield assist from Dickerson was the second of the season for the Curve.
Will Roberts (1-0) was brilliant in his Double-A debut, working six shutout innings to earn his first win of the season in Double-A. The right-hander allowed just four hits, walked three and fanned four.
Andy Vasquez collected a one-out single in the third inning to push his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. During the streak the switch-hitter is 15-for-35 (.429) with two doubles, a home run and three RBI.
Wednesday is a WALY 103.9 Four-Pack Wednesday at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Families can come out to the ballpark for the 6:30 p.m. game and get four tickets, four hot-dogs and four regular sodas all for just $35.
Taking the mound for the Curve (11-14) in Wednesday night's contest against the Aeros will be RHP Casey Sadler (3-1, 2.79). The start will be the first of the season for Sadler against the Aeros. He will be opposed by LHP Mike Rayl, who was just assigned to the Aeros on Monday from extended spring training. Rayl was on the disabled list with a torn fingernail on his pitching hand.
Gates for the third of four games against the Aeros will open at 5:30 p.m. while airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6 p.m. For tickets and more information on the current Curve homestand, call 877.99.CURVE, visit AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the ticket windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
