Pickard makes 46 saves in 4-3 victory over Everett

Kent - Colin Jacobs had a goal and two assists and Calvin Pickard made 46 saves to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-3 victory over the Everett Silvertips at ShoWare Center Friday night.

It was the home opener for the T-Birds who face the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.

The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the game when Brenden Silvester knocked home a rebound for a power-play goal. Colin Jacobs sent the puck from the right side of the Seattle zone to Charles Wells heading down the left side of the ice. Wells carried the puck into the Everett zone and put a shot on goal with Silvester coming down the slot. Silvester backhanded the puck past Everett goalie Kent Simpson for the T-Birds first score. Everett (0-1-0-0) outshot Seattle 13-10 in the first period.

Seattle (1-0-0-0) took a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal by Luck Lockhart at 6:34 of the second period. Jacobs held the puck on the boards on the left side. He charged towards the net with the puck and then sent the puck to Wells on the goal line to the left of the goal. Wells threw the puck on net and Simpson made the save but the puck lay in the crease. Lockhart pushed the puck past Simpson in a scramble in front of the Everett net.

Prab Rai took a pass from Stefan Warg in the Seattle zone and carried the puck up the ice into the Everett zone. From the left circle Rai beat Simpson with a snap shot over the glove at 7:10 of the second. Rai's shot hit the top of the right post and dropped into the net.

Seattle went in front 4-0 at 8:19 of the second. Wells sent the puck into the left corner to Lindsay Nielsen. Nielsen held the puck and then centered the puck to Jacobs in the slot. Jacobs put a wrist shot on goal that beat Simpson through his legs.

Everett replaced Simpson with Thomas Heemskerk after Seattle's fourth goal. Simpson made 14 saves on 18 shots.

The Silvertips got on the board at 14:24 of the second when Markus McCrea scored. Travis Dunstall and Cameron Abney had the assists.

Seattle outshot Everett 13-10 in the second period and led 26-23 in total shots after two periods.

Everett scored a second goal at 11:36 of the third period on a goal by Byron Froese. Tyler Maxwell and Ryan Murray had the assists on the goal.

Maxwell scored Everett's third goal at 13:23 of the third. Froese and Kellan Tochkin had the assists on the goal.

Everett outshot Seattle 49-35 in the game.

Heemskerk stopped all 17 shots he faced.

The T-Birds take on the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, September 19, at ShoWare Center at 7:05 p.m. They finish out the weekend in Vancouver when they take on the Giants at 5:05 p.m. at Pacific Coliseum.
