Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - A back and forth game saw the Saskatoon Blades pick up a point as they fell 3-2 to the Regina Pats in a shootout on Wednesday night in Saskatoon.
Kyle Crnkovic extended his points streak to five games (2G-7A) and Martin Fasko-Rudas extended his to four games (4G-2A) with his 10th goal of the season.
The Blades started out slow as the Pats opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game. Saskatoon would get some chances shortly after as Alex Morozoff was hauled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot but was unable to convert. Minutes later Morozoff hit the crossbar as the Pats held a 1-0 lead.
The Blades had plenty of physical play as Nolan Kneen, Rhett Rhinehart and Riley McKay all did their part to gain some momentum for the team. Regina ended up with a lengthy five on three near the end of the frame after a questionable boarding call but Saskatoon's penalty kill held strong and kept the Pats lead to a reachable 1-0.
In the second period the teams traded power plays off and on, but it was the Blades who finally broke through. A bouncing puck in the slot came out to Scott Walford as he fired a shot wide which bounced right to Fasko-Rudas who batted the puck out of mid-air to tie the game.

The tie was short lived, however, as Regina regained their lead just over a minute later and took a 2-1 lead into the final frame.
The Blades were able to tie the game in the third thanks to a strong shift by Jayden Wiens, Braden Plaschewsky and Caiden Daley. Plaschewsky got the puck and threw it on net and Wiens, while driving hard to the net, was taken down but had the puck go on off of him while on the ice.
There weren't many more chances the rest of the frame as we headed to overtime. The Blades had the best chance of the extra frame as Aiden De La Gorgendiere took a pass and drove the net but was unable to convert. Riley McKay scored in the shootout but the Pats won it in the third round and took the extra point.
The Blades next play on Sunday, hosting the Moose Jaw Warriors for the final Mosaic Family Day Skate of the year on Sunday at 2pm. Bring your skates to the game and join the whole team on the ice for photos, tag & autographs!
